Waiheke Island Historic Village This historic village reflects European settlement as it was in the 1930s and is complete with cottages and a Woolshed that house historical photographs and artefacts including a wool press and whale-boiling cauldron. A display is also dedicated to the Maori who first inhabited the area 700 years ago. A shop onsite sells reproductions of historical photographs. Built in 1863 entirely of kauri wood, this charming cottage is a historical gem. Since its construction, Rev Vicesimus and his family occupied the house until 1968. Largely untouched, it is filled with the original family furniture and possessions including an 800-book library. Open Friday to Sunday from 10:30am to 12noon; 1pm to 4:30pm.
