Sixty-five hectares (160 acres) of undulating land, along with masses of native trees and plants, comprises the relatively new Botanic Gardens. Opened in 1982, the gardens have already established a reputation. The variety of the land includes a rock garden, herb garden, edible garden, lakes and valleys. A cafe provides a place to rest and enjoy an afternoon tea. Those who find the gardens too large to traverse may hop aboard the Wiri Rambler 'train' run on the weekends. Open daily. Address: 102 Hill Road Manurewa Auckland New Zealand
