Opening its doors in 1852, the museum has acquired a colossal collection over the years spanning natural history, ethnology, archaeology, history, arts and photography, and library�all of which providing the visitor with a comprehensive understanding of New Zealand, its people, and its culture. A Maori cultural group performs three times daily and children will enjoy two discovery centres. There is also a war memorial commemorating the many New Zealanders who died in battle. Situated on top of an extinct volcano in an expansive green space, the museum commands great views of Auckland and the harbour. This is an attraction that should not be missed.
